The end!

So, this isn't actually about the way it ended, which if you've seen POT up to the end of the Hyotei arc you'll already know anyway. I've ended up shipping uhm, some unusual pairings I wouldn't usually in POT, just this version XD

There was a whole huge storyline with Chun Long having to quit the tennis team in order to help his father out and eventually take over the restaurant. I did not like the way it was handled, and a lot of it made me cringe. When Chun Long replied to his father things like, "we won't even talk about tennis!" I just about wanted to shoot his dad. He quit the team, he stepped up to his responsibilities, all because his father believed his son wasn't talented enough to make tennis his profession and therefore shouldn't waste his time on it. And then he was even afraid to talk to his former teammates (and still his friends!) about it in case it pissed off his old man! to be fair, Chun Long's father never said it in so many words, it was just Chun Long and his friends who kept assuring him of it, so they were probably just overreacting. But then I started thinking about what if there were more to it? Because the Oishi character in this - Da Shi - is very protective and caring of his teammates, as he should be, but seems to go out of his way more than Oishi in POT, and I think that comes of it being set in university - he is older and has more freedom to do so. What teenage boy in junior high wanders around to his friends homes to check up on them, really? XD

But yeah, long story short, I ship Da Shi/Chun Long because Da Shi seems really concerned for chun Long and yet mature enough to know when to step back and let him make his own decisions. And this comes around just before the Golden Pair have their fight and I like to see it as Chun Long's father catching Chun Long and Da Shi in a compromising position and having a bad reaction, already annoyed with Chun Long injuring himself for tennis now he has another reason to dislike it and makes his ultimatum. But although Chun Long and Da Shi care about each other by the end of the series I am quite happy to ship Da Shi/Ju Wan (Oishi/Eiji) and Chun Long/Ya Jin (Kawamura/Akutsu). Dude the guy who plays Ya Jin is SO HOT SOMEHOW I can't explain why! All I can say is that his entire aura gave the impression at first to me that he could have easily played the Atobe character (and perhaps should have!).

So yes, after the golden pair fight and make up and Da Shi realises he has been making allowances for Ju Wan's immaturity for so long he hasn't given him a chance to grow up or noticed that in ways he has, and Ya Jin gets a taste of humility and appreciates more the entire attitude Chun Long has.

(And of course every time Zhou Zhu and Guo Guang touched and hugged and spoke to each other and gave each other meaningful looks I squeed. The characters aren't exactly the same but I STILL SHIP IT ;)

And Zhen Zhi and Hai Tang (Inui and Kaidoh) are so together. You can pretty much ship everyone! OH and Long Ma (Ryoma) and the mute boy at the street courts, Xiao Bo (who has no equivelent in any respect in the anime or manga so far as I know). I ship that, too. Cheng Wu (Momo) can be the straight one this time and get with Qu Xing (Tachibana Ann).

The last episode, after they won, was a big GAY EXPLOSION OF GAY CONFETTI. It was great! I couldn't take much more after all the chest bumping the doubles pairs do after each point they take XD XD XD oh so gay. POT you will always be gay no matter what form you take.
