The Return of Iljimae, EPs 11-12

emothyYou know, I think this drama has found it's identity. With a steady pace to follow and not such a frenetic plot, trying to build up every piece of backstory and experience that makes Iljimae who he is, we're able to begin to follow a slower, more confident progression now. So much less narration, so much less having to just directly explain things to us because there doesn't seem to be enough chance to show them in their own right.
I have to say what with everything that happened in the first seven episodes I wondered how they were going to keep the pace, how much exactly was still left to happen, and what could possibly be stretched into twenty-four episodes. I still wonder, but in a more positive way. I wonder where the plot is going, because I can't predict it myself, and that's good, it keeps me interested!
I do suspect, however, that this may have been a drama better filmed as two series - Iljimae's life up to age 20 or 21 for the first, and then a second series that follows what is going on now.
- The Return of Iljimae, Episode 11: OMG I STARTED TO CRY AS HER LIPS TRIED TO FORM HIS NAME.
Oh god it sounds so beautiful like that. He carries the poem. He carries her heart.
No, you didn't look for him because the people who threw you out were rich and powerful and would never have let you anyway! You survived!
OH OFFICER GU YOU MAY HAVE WELL JUST SAID 'I LOVE YOU' RIGHT THERE.
ARGGHHHH OMG HE SAID *THAT*?!?!?! OHMYFREAKING GOD. WHAT A TIME TO GROW COURAGE!
HE SAID LOVE TOO! HE SAID IT. God, she's like a wild animal too, reluctant to even get near a human, wary and waiting for them to strike, ready to bite back if they do.
So if we hadn't already worked it out by Su-Ryeon's overattentiveness to Officer Gu all through the episodes until now, we have a few transitions back to her to see her face fall at Gu's revelation to Baek Mae. (I can't feel sorry for her entirely, she was just waiting and hoping he'd forget Baek Mae, really. She never asserted her feelings to him, just like he didn't to Baek Mae... until now).
He's practical along with his declaration of feelings XD Panicking, it seems.
You know, in actual reality I can't see Seon-Dal's records of Iljime being at all interesting or accurate - he doesn't know Iljimae's past, he doesn't know Iljimae's trainingor who he met or where's he been, and most of the more interesting stuff he does now is done convertly! XD Haha, the scene just went to Seon-Dal as I was musing on this!
Cha-Dol has picked up all the gossip of rich and corrupt men being robbed XD
Blah, the "let's shout out our troubles where the audience can hear and catch up with them!" stick. Although this is a bunch of people we're passing through their lives to see their misfortunes. Iljimae will bestow things upon them! Wealth and good fortune!
(Why does no-one ever notice how much the gold plum blossom might be worth?! XD IT'S GOLD.)
And so Iljimae steals the hearts of the next generation of girls too, not only with his mystery and gifts to the poor, but he's a hottie too and she'll spread the word XD
Here come the wildly exaggerated stories, wings and flying XD
...This episode is freaking me out a little. I was just thinking, "Why does Hweng Bo continue to stay in Joseon when he's a Qing spy anyway - he's hardly doing anything of note!" And then the guy he's with just asked if he can't return home because of pride.
Ooooh, possible Hweng Bo future confrontation? If he begins to steal from the poor Iljimae bestows money on... A final confrontation? Iljimae has never really given it to Hweng Bo for upsetting his entire life and turning so many people against him.
(Hweng Bo is getting old if he can't even get away from one man XD)
...Is the former gang leader concerned about Hweng Bo stealing NOW? XD lol. It was only a huge group os thieves!
Geol-Chi has it all figured out XD Gasp, that's a bit harsh though! I don't think he thought before he spoke there.

...Is Wol-Hee clinging to Iljimae in worry, or holding him back? It's so hard to tell. Does she think he might be moved to intervene? I don't blame her for thinking so; he never looked away from the scene once.
Is it me or did he not look incredibly weary before he made that declaration? (Not the most romantic proposal in the world, but he's fighting against his own instincts to not get attached like that, to give Wol-Hee the stability she needs).
We're lingering on this too much, someone's going to notice him. We wouldn't be watching this job unless something was going to be unusual.

Wow, Baek-Mae is going to go to Officer Gu! I'm glad they pointed out her fears the Iljimae wouldn't want to know her because she (didn't really, it wasn't her choice) abandoned him.
...It's taken the police THIS LONG to hear the rumours because nobody wants the police to know their illicit business XD

Still dislike the monk. It might've been cute to reunite Geol-Chi with him, since Iljimae was going to him. But I'm glad somebody was around to mention Dal. lljimae hasn't forgotten her.

- The Return of Iljimae, Episode 12: Oh God, when you look back on it they were just blissfully happy, living a simple life. Which makes you recall the angst of Dal being violently killed and Iljimae's complete ignorance of the situation even more sharply. I think as memories that still haunt him, now that it's a past event, I can buy it more - at the time their relationship wasn't developed enough for me.
Oh you boys, Iljimae has other issues than fighting against the bad guys you know! XD

Is there a purpose to this guy Hweng Bo stole from returning? Although, it is amusing.
That's the first time I've seen Wol-Hee express discontent with Iljimae devoting so much time to helping the poor. And his refusal to communicate his feelings much at all is becoming more obvious.
Ah, so Iljimae gets stuck in to this issue between these noblemen (I love Iljimae when he's stirring people up, so up himself XD) LOL. It's the simple things that make this so amusing.
Okay why didn't they gag her to keep her from screaming, and more importantly why has she suddenly stopped now? HE'S RUBBING HER BUTT THROUGH THE SACK SHE'S BUNDLED UP IN. (Maybe she fainted or screaming herself into exhaustion, who knows. She's been quiet this entire exchange between Iljimae and the mysterious Yang Po). She was gagged, sort of XD
YES WE CAN TELL IT'S FOR LISTENING SINCE HE HELD IT UP TO HIS EAR. And looks much like paper cup telephones do in construction.
Ahahaha, she's such a storyteller. "I saw a tiger!"

Yes, okay I totally see it. Being bravely rescued by an utter hunk will definitely do things to you XD

I love how this place is apparently so huge Iljimae still hasn't been discovered by the police even when he goes out shopping, and lives in a regular home now XD
Iljimae is off to be gisaeng again XD And walks right past everyone easily.
HE IS STILL LICKING HIS SHOES AFTER ALL THIS TIME OMG THE LOVE. ILJIMAE'S THREATS ARE THAT SCARY XD
HIS SMILE IS SO ADORABLE. HIS CHARM IS OOZING. He has this amazing way of being soft and graceful without mocking femininity in trying to do so.
I love how his disguises and regular wear always seem to incorporate a ring XD Rings draw attention to the hands.
LOL. He handled that come on nicely ;)
...He's taller than most of the men, I find that kind of hilarious. (And a lot broader than most, but it's mostly hidden under the hanbock).
We'll pretend to ignore the fact that he removed the false eyelashes when getting out of the hanbock? XD Obviously the ninja-wear could be hidden under the hanbock, and lipstick can be wiped off, but I only just noticed this time when they dolled him up as a gisaeng they put the false eyelashes on too (but not last time, I recall noticing he didn't have eye make-up on) - it helps the effect a lot.
