Didn't ge a chance to watch this until today - found good old SSAMinds on Youtube, relocated from SSAUnsub, who uploads a day later but unlike all the others on Youtube, uploads the entire episode, no teasing.

I have to say, J.J. really impressed me this episode. I'm used to the way she is, but it actually clicked for me this episode, what I like about her. She hesitates these days. She used to lose it a little. I think perhaps this is character development as it pertains to her having had a child. She is constantly coming up against Bureau decisions and protocols she doesn't completely agree with, and has to keep choosing and choosing again. She hesitates, but each time she makes her decision to do her job and that is it. Once the decision is made J.J. does her work whole-heartedly and allows herself no room for regret. I admire that.

Until this episode, with her initially disagreeing with the team's plans and then attempting to put them into motion anyway, I hadn't been able to pin-point it. Yeah, there are things she doesn't like. But she trusts the team and knows it is more important to save lives than to protect this one woman's emotions in the long run, even though J.J. very much cares about this one woman and her emotions right now. The greater good.

And oh dear, the ending. Daddy issues, just a little? XD

I have to say though, although I love CM the way it is, I am wondering if this season might not have benefitted from some more character-centric episodes by now. There's been no Hotch aftermath since Haley's death - we haven't even SEEN Jack and have no idea how Hotch is handling single-parenthood. Which seems to make Haley's death rather pointless, if we cannot relate to how Hotch is (and Jack is) continuing on without her. And the run of Morgan becoming the boss - we've had nothing to suggest why that has faded away so easily. Don't the Bureau have ambitions for him, even if he is content to rely on Hotch? I'm sure they've made plots out of that issue before.

I thought the Communion card was a cute touch. And it made me smile to see that although it was clearly J.J.'s influence that had the card written and signed, that Rossi gifted the girl money. Gideon kept pictures of the people he saved surrounding him, like family; Rossi provides for them materially. Same and not the same.
