OMG TRAINING CAMP!
Even if you don't ship Zhen Zhi/Hai Tang, if you can't see it then you're just blind and stupid, I think. Poor angsty Zhen Zhi, jealous that the coach would rather give Hai Tang and Cheng Wu a chance to become a doubles team even though they antagonize one another rather than ask Zhen Zhi and Hai Tang to team up. To be fair, Zhen Zhi is no longer a Regular, he's the assistant coach. And we all know that being rivals and knowing each other's weaknesses is what is going to make Hai Tang and Cheng Wu's combination great XD
I am undecided over Zhou Zhu's characterization. There's a lot of Fuji we don't get to see in him, the intrinsic understanding of tennis tactics and how and why people play the way they do. And the issues with his brother. I wonder just how it would have been in canon were we to have seen how it all went down at Seigaku during their second year, when Yuuta came and left. Would Fuji have really let himself be seen this way? And yet, isn't that where the facade came from? Having to dampen down who he is in order to keep his brother from feeling inferior, which doesn't work anyway. Why can't Zhou Yu understand that "Zhou Zhu's little brother" is WHAT he is, but not WHO he is? I agree Zhou Zhu has been terribly smothering and clingy here and there, and can blame a lot of his brother's attitude towards him on himself, but Zhou Yu has a real sticking point with the entire issue that isn't anything Zhou Zhu has done. He can't help being talented, and he SHOULDN'T have to pretend he isn't just to make his little brother feel better. And then there are moments when Zhou Zhu is behaving all carefree and rather than see that as a part of Fuji's character it feels odd for Zhou Zhu to show he isn't alright and then act like he is.
I sort of ship Da Shi/Chun Long in this. The mom of the team is just right, and watching out for someone not only injured, but having home troubles.
And thank you episode 13 for the fanservice. "You're not going to swim," -but you're all wearing tiny swimming suits anyway! If only there could have been longer focus. It isn't perving, nearly all of them are older than me! XD
Doesn't it suck a little bit though to be watching things on your own? I'd like to squee and trade fic ideas but I haven't been able to do that in a long time. I think that doesn't help. It might be why I haven't been able to write much fic at all for the last bunch of dramas I've watched. I want someone to bounce ideas off of. I've said this before, though. Never mind! Life gets in the way.
