This is the one MGG directed. And I think they happened to have some interesting writing at the same time, coincidentally.

So. I bawled my eyes out. This one was really a girl-power episode for me, and so much more about the victims than the profile. We were given a solid profile but with no reason why, no motivations as to why they wanted these children, or when and why they chose to kill these children and yet continued to abduct more.

The team were scattered all over the place but we had lots of Emily, J.J. and Garcia together. And oh man some of the carefully chosen lines for the men (not Morgan interestingly enough, and I don't think Hotch, but Reid and Rossi, the dumbasses) really made me cringe and think, "incompetent!". In an 'oh, stupid boy' kind of way. I think it set a clear line between how men and women MIGHT approach this job, which obviously depends on the subject matter. Yes, J.J. does react differently now as a mother. But it makes her better at her job for relating to the mothers of victims and understanding their thought processes.

And I think when Reid spoke to Charlie's mother at the end, when she was worrying about seeing him again after so long, if they didn't intend me to think Reid was thinking about his own mom then MGG is just a very good actor ;)
