May. 27th, 2009 09:19 pmI may have finally figured out why I hate when people say things like this: "I don't have a problem with gays - I worked with a bunch of gay people, they're really nice!"
Took me long enough, huh!
(1. Actually, not all of them are nice. Don't you love people who judge an entire race/class/grouping by a few examples, whether for good or bad?
2. Just because somebody is "nice", doesn't mean you have to automatically like them. "Nice" is a wimpy, unspecific word that doesn't really mean anything and is often used when you barely know someone anyway.
3. OF COURSE THEY ARE; THEY'RE PEOPLE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. NICENESS AND GAYNESS HAVE NO RELATION JUST LIKE STRAIGHTNESS AND NICENESS.)
I think one of the things I hate the most is that when people have these conversations around me, I sense that they're waiting for me to interject and agree. Just because I don't look stereotypically lesbian, or whatever they expect gay people to be, or maybe they don't believe in bisexuality, doesn't mean I am just going to agree to that lame grouping of opinion. If I was actively dating, ever, which I have done for possibly a total of a year out of 22 on this earth thus far, I wouldn't purposely keep it hidden or out of conversation unless I thought I was making anyone uncomfortable (although that would be their issue and in bitchy moments I would so purposefully make comments just to irritate them XD). It simply isn't an issue, so I don't talk about my preferences, either way.
Does that mean I don't have a right to feel this way? Because I am totally asserting my right to be pissed off! I do so most every hour of every day.
This conversation was going on on Monday. Don't ask why it took me three days to come to this conclusion, because I just can't answer you.
