Today started off bad, but hell it turned into a good day! :)

We all got little gifts at work we weren't expecting from Jan and Sue (manageresses) ; a box of chocolates and a little chocolate santa each, and ten pounds in a little gift envelope from Colin & Steve & Val (the owners and the deceased owner's wife), BUT omg that's not the best part.

So while we're bringing in all the crap we put outside every morning, Jan and Sue take me to one side and we have a little chat that goes something like this;

Jan: We know you're only eighteen, but Sue and I have been talking and we think that for the work you do, it's unfair that you get paid so much less than everyone else just because of your age. You work just as hard as everyone else, and you shouldn't have to wait until you're nineteen for your pay to go up. (and even then it doesn't go up to the same as most people's, coz they're all over twenty).
Sue: Now we can't officially up your wages because you are still eighteen, but what we're going to try and do is add some extra hours onto your paycheck, maybe say you've been working six days a week. You don't actually have to work it obviously, but you'll get the money.
Jan: We just want to give you that little bit extra because you do work hard. Just don't mention it to anyone.
Sue: We'll just say you come in at 8am every morning! (we actually start at 8:45 but sometimes mum goes in early to get a headstart on filling up the cards, so it's not unheard of).
Me: *stares in shock* OMGWTF THANKS!

So yeah that was absolutely amazingly awesome, what a Christmas present! To be told I'm such a good worker they're going to bend the rules for me so I can be paid more, to be on level with everyone else! It's so awesome of them, and it seems to have just come out of nowhere! I have been talking about how great it is to mum and Carrie, but I don't know if they actually get how much it means to me to be told I'm a good worker, and there be this gesture behind it that shows it isn't just empty words. I'm so glad they realise I do things to the best of my ability, and I do try hard, and that's it's nothing to do with my age. I don't think many places would do that kind of thing for you, which a one reason I do really like my job. The people can be so so wonderful.

So yeah, that was a great surprise today and a lovely Christmas present. I don't know how much more money I'll be getting, or how they'll do it, but the gesture is just... Wow.

And since it's Christmas and everything, Carrie and I won't see each other this Sunday like we usually do, or the next one because it's New Year and her mum's birthday on New Year's Eve. So I gave Carrie her presents this evening, and she definitely liked them. And she said "Love you, thank you", but we're going to pretend she didn't mean that in the big important way and ignore it. Coz that's not something I can say back.

But anyway, yeah, just a good day considering I was plagued with evil period pains and felt crap and was going to be interrupted by till cover all day when it began. One more day to get through til Christmas! :)

Have a good one everyone :* :* :* :*
