were you weak/was i strong?

"During his first days in his new school, Renji stopped observing and kept to himself, wondering if the empty feeling was not in fact loneliness but lack of purpose."

I'VE DISCUSSED THIS BEFORE.

"So predictable. Everything about Genichirou was either black or white. Yukimura was more abstract, though just as interesting, and certainly more pleasant to be with.

Though understandably, Renji found it easier to adjust to black and white."

I think this just explained why I find it so much easier to believe Yanagi and Sanada hit it off first.

"Dislike.

That was the first thing that Renji noticed that the two had in common.

Sometimes he was startled by how similar they were, even if they were basically very different.

They both wanted the same things. Perfection. Mastery. Dominance.

They both very strongly hated specific traits in other people, though the things they hated differed."

...I'm beginning to wish I'd written this.

"By their third year in middle school, they were friends. Or at least, they had come to know each other so well that they had taken on a little of each other's traits.

Seiichi was sterner, less free with his smiles. Genichirou was more careful with his words, and if anything less openly judgmental. Those who knew him as a first-year student had been amused that people found him intimidating -- in fact he was much more socially offensive as a child.

On his part, Renji found himself more disciplined and more cunning. Seiichi's insightfulness taught him to think at least five steps ahead, to change strategies more fluidly if need be. Genichirou's vigilance taught him that he could always endure a little more, go a little further."

Stupidly, now that I'm home where I wanted to be I'm feeling the need to avoid everyone. I'm going to blame periods on messed up emotions.

I blame everything on periods. :* (And you do know you can tell me anything. :) )

It is interesting to see similar ideas in fic from someone else! And she points out some interesting things - how all three of them have changed.
