a real list!
1. MY DRAMA RATINGS (for the most part done, but still kind of a WIP).
2. Am debating whether to move my icon posts onto DW - do I really need another DW journal? Can I rely on LJ to host those posts? Does any of it matter? I'm hardly followed for my iconing skills XD
3. In the process of browsing tumblr I came across one that encourages picspam challenges: Themed Party. So I was trying to think of ideas for picspams I could do for my Dorama DW. So I collected up all the challenges from there and from
picspammy:
Themed Party Challenges:
Challenge 1: First Meetings
Make a graphic about two (or more) people or characters meeting for the first time, or be inspired by their first meeting. You can interpret it as you want: the first time they see each other, the first time they talk to each other, or the adventure they go on together the first time they meet,…
Challenge 2: 50+
The people in your graphic must be 50 or older. I’ll include those who are turning 50 this year, so anyone who was born before January the first, 1962. It can be a graphic of one person or character, or a scene with two actors who are 50 or older,… They must be (around) that age in the pictures as well. I’m obviously not gonna track down every picture to see when it was taken, but you know, don’t use pictures from when they were still in their twenties.
Challenge 3: The past
The subject of your graphic must be something that happened in the past from the point of view of when it was made. For example, all kind of historic shows or movies like Deadwood, Mad Men, Pride & Prejudice, The Pillars of the Earth, etc. But also time-travelling stories where someone goes to the past (but focus on the past, don’t just do a picspam of the facial expression of the Doctor in a “past” episode) or flashbacks. For example, Buffy the vampire slayer is a show where the stories took place in the time it was written so regular scenes don’t count, but flashbacks to the vampires’ past do, but in Mad Men all the stories take place before the time it was written so you can make a graphic of anything about that show.
Challenge 4: Random quote
Go to this Random Quotes page and base your graphic on one of them. You can refresh the page as many times as you like until you find a quote that inspires you, but to challenge yourself it has to be one you found by getting these random quotes. Just the quote itself (or a “hipster” graphic with the quote) is not allowed, and the subject of your graphic can’t be the author of the quote or the book/movie/etc. the quote is from. Other than that, anything is allowed for the subject of your graphic, as long as you personally think it fits the quote. Put the entire quote and who said it somewhere in the text of your post.
Challenge 5: Character flaws
Base your graphic on the character flaws of one or more fictional characters. Do not use this as an excuse to bash a character you dislike, but as a way to show how interesting a character you do like is. I repeat: DO NOT BASH CHARACTERS YOU DON’T LIKE. What counts as a character flaw: Here’s some general information, here are some examples. What I will not count as a character flaw: anything to do with anyone’s appearance.
Challenge 6: Dance
Base your graphic on a dance or people dancing. It can be a choreographed dance, but it can just as well be a slow dance or someone giving the best of themselves on the dancefloor. It can be one person, two, a whole group,… As long as there’s dancing, it’s good!
picspammy Challenges:
Challenge #1: A Favorite Movie
Pick a movie. Any movie. But don't just focus on one specific scene or character (as much as you can). We were originally going to go with 'favorite movie', but I know I would have a way harder time picking my favorite movie than actually doing the picspam.
Challenge #2: Couples
TV, film, celebrities. Canon couples, subtexty couples, u.s.t. couples, crack pairings, whatever. Popular or unpopular pairings. Actual celebrity couples or people you think should be a couple. You can show as much or as little of the relationship as you want. For instance, if you do a tv pairing, you could do one episode or a lot of episodes. You could tell a story or you could let the pictures speak for themselves. You could also do a list of favorite or least favorite couples or list couples on a single tv show.
Challenge #3: Casting
Anything you want to cast. You can cast a favorite book, short-story, comic, play, fairy tale, etc. or you can recast a favorite film or television series. If you felt a movie adaptation of a book did the casting all wrong, do it again. You can focus on however many characters you want in one spam, whether it is just one character or the entire cast.
Challenge #4: Premieres & Finales
This challenge will consist ONLY of tv shows. But not just tv shows in general. This challenge, you'll be picspamming premieres (the first episode of a season) or finales (the last episode of a season). If an episode has two parts, you can picspam both of those. For example, I've always thought of the first two Buffy episodes ("Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "The Harvest") as one episode because that's how I originally watched them.
Challenge #5: Favorite People
A real person. A famous person. Not your best friend. Not just a character. You are welcome to include characters portrayed by an actor or actress, but the post must also include additional characters played by the same actor or real life images. You could also make a list-style picspam of some of your favorite people.
Challenge #6: Year-End Lists
Any kind of list. Favorite people of 2008. Favorite events. Favorite films. Favorite albums. Favorite episodes. Anything you want. With pictures, obviously. :)
Challenge #7: Characters
This challenge will focus on your favorite character. Whether your reasons are superficial or substantial is up to you. So if you want to picspam a movie or tv show, focus on one character. For the most part we should only see that character. Obviously, you can organize your picspam any way you want. Like, if you do a tv character, you could do a big block of images from random episodes or you could separate it by episode or season. Or whatever creative idea you have. You could also do a list of characters you like or a post with several characters from something as long as it was organized in a way that separated them from one another. For instance, you could do a picspam of Cylons on Battlestar Galactica as long as each Cylon had their own chunk of images.
Challenge #8: Reasons To...
Whether it's reasons to watch something, reasons to go to a certain place, or reasons to love a certain person. Anything. However, the posts should be focused on JUST ONE THING. In other words, no 'This a list of all my favorite movies, and here is why I love them' will be allowed. Just split up the posts if you want to do more than one thing. The posts should be aimed at people who are not familiar with the fandom. Also, please try to make posts reasonably spoiler-free. It would be no fun at all for people looking at spams in order to get an idea of what it is about, to have something ruined for them. NOT COOL.
Challenge #9: Scenes and Sequences
This month's challenge is to focus your picspam on one scene or sequence. A single scene should be easy enough to understand. A sequence could be more complicated to define in terms of this challenge. There are times when there are several scenes edited together that are completely separate but the overall combination fits into the same emotional moment. One of your favorite scenes might be split up with unrelated scenes in between but could be combined to look like one scene in a picspam. Whatever you think qualifies as a scene or sequence is acceptable. (Hopefully this makes sense. Feel free to ask questions if you want.)
Challenge #10: Compare & Contrast
Your posts should take 2 or 3 topics and either show how they are similar or show how they are different. You can compare and contrast two characters, two shows, two films, a show and a film, two genres, two cities, two people, two scenes, a show and its spinoff, or something and its remake. Anything you think fits.
Challenge #11: Short Form
This month's challenge is going to focus on shorter forms of entertainment. Trailers, music videos, commercials, short films, webisodes, favorite internet videos or any other kind of entertainment that isn't a full television episode or film.
Challenge #12: Color Focus
Your post should focus on the usage of color. Please note that this does not mean it should focus on your personal coloring of the caps, but instead on the colors that appear naturally in the thing that you are spamming. Whether you want to stick with one thing and organize a number of caps by the primary colors used in those caps or maybe take one specific color and use caps from a number of different sources is entirely up to you.
Challenge #13: Something Different
We've noticed that a lot of people picspam the same things again and again for each challenge so we thought it would be good to bring in a little more variety to the community. This is not the kind of challenge to mold to fit your top fandom/actor/etc. For this challenge, you will be asked to picspam something you've never picspammed before. It may be something new that you're starting to obsess over. It could be something old that you've recently appreciated in a new light. Something you've loved for awhile but you've never expressed your love for it. A celebrity you knew of but didn't realize how pretty they were until recently. Basically, something you're into right now that you haven't picspammed.
Challenge #14: End of the Decade
Considering that this decade is ending, we thought it would be interesting to see what you could come up with for a decade-end challenge. You could do a list of favorite things of the decade or you could chronicle change throughout the decade in a certain medium. What you choose to do is entirely up to you as long as your subject matter didn't exist before January 1st, 2000.
Challenge #15: Year-End Lists
Same as last year. You can make any kind of list. Favorite people of 2009. Favorite events. Favorite films. Favorite albums. Favorite episodes. Anything you want.
Challenge #16: Non-Fandom
This should be an easy one to explain. Your picspam should focus on something outside of the fandom picspams we usually see here. That means no tv, movies, music, actors, actresses, models, video games, etc. If you want to picspam a historical figure you can have some limited images from fandom but the picspam should contain a majority of real images.
Challenge #17: Five
Your picspam should be a collection of 5 things with something in common. For example: 5 favorite episodes of one show, 5 favorite adaptations of a Shakespeare play, 5 favorite burroughs/areas of a city, etc. Don't let your subject be too broad. 5 favorite movies would be too broad, but if you wanted to make 5 movies by a certain director or 5 movies from a certain year, that would be fine.
Challenge #18: Fifty
This month's challenge focuses on list picspams featuring fifty favorite things. They should all be broadly related, i.e. 50 favorite people, 50 favorite characters, etc. We would hope that you spend time on this and really think hard about what would end up on your list. Naturally, these picspams will all be long but we ask that for each number you have at least three images. Honorable mentions are not allowed. You can include explanations or not and the lists do not necessarily have to be in a ranking order. If you need to post multiple times for one picspam, please wait until you have links to the whole picspam before posting to the community. We will not accept partial picspams.
Challenge #19: Second Chance
This challenge is designed to give you a second chance to picspam three of our least popular (and most difficult) themes: casting, reasons to..., and compare and contrast. I will be linking to picspams for each challenge that I feel best reflected the challenge and our intent for the challenge.
[Challenge 3, Challenge 8, Challenge 10.]
Challenge #20: Tropes
Your picspam must focus on a page from this website: TV Tropes. There are a number of ways you can do this. 1) go to the page for a show/movie/something that is picspammable, pick one of more tropes, picspam. 2) hit the "random item" button at the top of the website, find something that interests you, pick one or more fandom, picspam. 3) or browse this to find something that interests you, pick one or more fandom, picspam. Most importantly, your picspam should clearly illustrate why something fits your trope through images and a brief (at least) description.
Challenge #21; Brain Twin
This challenge is a bit like an icon battle, but with picspams. Basically, you decide on a topic with another person then you both picspam it WITHOUT SHARING ANY OF YOUR WORK WITH EACH OTHER until you see the picspam posted here. Topics can be specific or broad but should be somewhat specific. For instance, if you were to do a general picspam on a show, you would want to narrow it down to something like "pretty stuff on this show" or "characters on this show" or "colors on this show" etc. Non-fandom is okay. Just put "non-fandom" in the fandom line. There will be a comment in this post with the subject "questions" where you can ask questions to the mods.
Challenge #22: Illustrate a Song
The challenge this month is to use your picspam to illustrate a song or music piece with your fandom. The idea is that you find a way to illustrate concepts, scenes, pairings or character from your fandom through music or vice versa. For example: you can spam your favorite ship, so you find a song that fits them and work your spam around that song. Or, you can pick a song and find something on one of your fandoms that can illustrate that song. You can either use the song literally - as in, illustrating exactly what the lyrics say -, or make a spam that illustrates the general concept of the song. You can also choose pieces that have no lyrics. Additionally, you can also pick an entire album to illustrate.
Challenge #23: RGB
Your challenge is to illustrate RGB on your picspam, that is to say, your spam has to have Red, Green and Blue as your main color focus. It can be in any combination of the three (meaning you could exclude colors), but at least one of the colors has to be focused on. You can also do variations of red, green or blue, but like I said: at least one of them has to be the main color focus. The way you focus or express a color is really up to you, don't be shy. The more forward and creative you wanna be, the better.
Challenge #24: Emotions
Happiness, sadness, anger, surprise. Emotions.
The challenge this month is to focus your picspam on one or more emotions. You can choose to showcase one single emotion or you can choose to compare more emotions in one fandom. You may also compare one emotion through more than one fandom. You can illustrate emotions however you like, but be specific! Use and describe the emotions in ways that are clearly visible through the fandom (what I'm trying to say is, try not to do something that is subjective - like things that make you happy about LOST -, since that's not necessarily going to be clear for everyone, instead try to illustrate the emotion through the topic of the spam - so you could do happy moments of LOST instead-). Be sensitive as to how to limit yourself. We'd rather you do a picspam that deeply illustrates a specific one or two emotions than try to cramp up many emotions from one subject without a specific concept or idea to compare and contrast them.
Challenge #25: YEAR-END LISTS
Lists! What made 2010 special for you? What were your favorite things? Your favorite people? Shows? Music? Movies? Etc. Etc. Etc. Make a picspam dedicated to your fannish enthusiasm in 2010.
Challenge #26: SETTING: SCENERY AND PRODUCTION DESIGN
The setting of a film or television show is often a big part of defining and setting it apart from others. There are a lot of cases where the scenery or production design make the film or show beautiful and unique. This is your opportunity to focus on those elements that make the things you love stand out.
Challenge #27: MOODTHEME PICSPAMS
I love moodthemes and thought it would be fun for us to do picspams based on the livejournal moods. So basically, your task is to make a moodtheme but with bigger pictures! Pick a subject - broad or narrow - and make something pretty!
As well as all the
drama_hunt tags/themes I keep hold of for future picspamming purposes.
Input on this would be cool though - can anyone think of a challenge or theme I could picspam anime/drama-wise? Anything you'd like to see me do? :D My most favourites are The Legend, Story of a Man, and Coffee Prince (although I assume that's been picspammed more than anything else), Prince of Tennis, Peacemaker Kurogane, K-On!, but I would also enjoy going back over Wang Qiu Wang Zi, My Prince (although the video files were never great quality even before they were subbed), Gokusen, 49 Days... Most anything I've watched, really. Here is a comprehensive list of what I've watched/partially watched.
4. I removed a bunch of comms/people from my flist, but really it's only communities I no longer wish to follow, and people who weren't following me or hadn't updated for at least two years.
5. There is a DW community called Arashi Fashion. Life is complete.
2. Am debating whether to move my icon posts onto DW - do I really need another DW journal? Can I rely on LJ to host those posts? Does any of it matter? I'm hardly followed for my iconing skills XD
